MY TEACHING STYLE
Each student brings their own unique musical voice, and I'm passionate about helping them discover and develop it, whether they're taking their first tentative steps at the keyboard or refining advanced techniques.
What truly drives my teaching is the belief that music education should be as individual as each student. I take a care-led, holistic approach that honours where you are in your musical journey and where you want to go. Whether you're drawn to classical repertoire, jazz improvisation, folk fingerstyle, or contemporary pop, I'll meet you there with enthusiasm and expertise.
My goal isn't just to teach notes on a page—it's to nurture musicality, build confidence, and most importantly, help you find genuine joy in making music.
I welcome students of all ages and levels, from young beginners (typically starting around ages 5-7, though I teach from age 4) to adult learners embarking on new musical adventures. Every lesson is a collaborative space where your goals, interests, and learning style shape our path forward together—because it's never too late to start your musical journey.
ABOUT ME
I am a musician and academic, originally from the UK and now living on the beautiful Sunshine Coast with my family.
Originally a classically trained pianist and rock and pop guitarist, my own practice has moved into experimental and noise music as well as composition and theatre sound design.
I have had the privilege of teaching piano and guitar to students of all ages and abilities for over a decade.
My educational journey has given me a comprehensive foundation in music that deeply informs my teaching. I hold a Master's degree in Classical Music from Oxford University and a PhD from Royal Holloway, University of London. These experiences have immersed me in diverse musical traditions, from Baroque counterpoint to contemporary composition, and have equipped me with a nuanced understanding of music theory, history, and performance practice across countless genres and styles.
